Richard has a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Canterbury. He is an experienced senior leader who has a passion for leading technical people, exceeding stakeholder expectations and in delivering elegant technical solutions.
Richard began his career as a Systems and Technology Officer with the New Zealand Defence Force. During this time, he served within several organisations, in a variety of operational roles, throughout New Zealand and overseas. As a result, Richard developed sound leadership, project, technical and people skills. He quickly grasps situations and can easily relate complex information to technical experts and clients alike.
In 2008 Richard joined Tait Communications initially within the engineering team, then progressing into marketing and sales roles. This work was varied, and technically complex, allowing him to combine his technical knowledge with his strong leadership and stakeholder relationship experience. During this time, he also completed an 18-month secondment to Tait Australia where he gained insight into various public safety, transport and utility operations.
Following his return to New Zealand, in 2013, Richard joined Airways New Zealand, the national Air Navigation Service Provider. Initially responsible for international sales and marketing Richard gained strategy, strategic relationship, and project responsibilities for the commercial arm of of the business. Between 2018 and 2021 he held two appointments, as Operations Manager for Quasar Systems and as Marketing Manager for Wyma Solutions an export manufacturer. As a senior manager in both organisations Richard extended his commercial expertise and operational experience.
In 2021 Richard joined Abley relishing the opportunity to extend his leadership, operational and commercial skills as the Group Manager Service Delivery. He brings to Abley a diverse background and sound leadership skills focused on delivery.
Balancing his busy work life Richard enjoys competing in multis-sport events and spending time in the Southern Alps with his family.
