Transportation Technical Leaders - Abley
Abley are looking for experienced transportation technical specialists to lead transportation strategy and infrastructure in New Zealand.
Want to make major transformational change to New Zealand’s transport? Do it with us.
Hi! We’re Abley and we’ve been looking for you. We’re a company that walks the talk – quite literally. We don’t just plan and design healthy street environments, we walk, cycle and scooter to work and for recreation – recognising the action we need to take for the climate, our communities, and the environment. We do our bit to get people between a and b safely too – developing road safety strategies and guidance for the industry, as well as designing safer streets. We’re big picture thinkers who consider environmental, economic and personal wellbeing outcomes in everything we do.
We are proud to be leading the way on some of New Zealand’s largest sustainable transport and road safety projects. We’ve been at the forefront of New Zealand’s road safety strategy (Road to Zero), all stages of the Speed and Infrastructure Programme, the Canterbury Multi-Use Arena project and the Hobsonville Point development, just to name a few.
We are looking for transportation specialists that are leaders in their field to join us on our mission. We’re looking for go-getters with:
- A proven track record nailing project delivery;
- An infectious passion for contributing to improving transport in New Zealand;
- Motivation to address complex problems like climate change and sustainability;
- Drive to push the limits of technical innovation;
- Strong business networks and the ability to secure work; and
- Enthusiasm for fostering talent in the industry.

About you
Choosing the right person isn’t simply about results. It’s about values, relationships and the ability to bring that x-factor. So, let’s make sure you’re the right person for us. You need to be:
- An experienced transportation specialist – you’ll be passionate about all things ‘transportation’ and your background will align with the work we do.
- Able to deliver results – you’ll need a successful track record in both winning and delivering quality work.
- A willingness to share your knowledge – you will be leading people, project teams, and coaching and mentoring your less experienced colleagues.
- Full of positive energy – we want people to feel energized, inspired and motivated to be around you, so bring your ‘glass half-full’ attitude to work. You will have a proactive ‘can-do’ attitude.
- A brilliant communicator– you’ll be chatting to people in-person, via email or video conferencing, and in meetings. Your knowledge will inspire those you speak to. You’ll also be writing reports, business cases etc. so a good eye for detail is important.
- A builder of strong relationships–it is incredibly important that you’re approachable and can foster positive relationships with those you work with, both clients and colleagues.
The Important Bits
This role is full time and based in our Auckland office. If you prefer living further south, we also have offices in Wellington and Christchurch, so please do get in touch if any of these locations appeal.
Each of our offices are centrally located with public transport only a hop, skip and a jump away. If you’re a cyclist (like many of the Abley team) we also have great cycling facilities too.

At Abley we make waves in the technology and transportation spaces. We have several industry ‘firsts’ under our belt thanks to our team’s unrivalled abilities in spatial and data intelligence, software development, transportation planning and engineering. We are a tight-knit bunch and support each other to fast-track the career growth of everyone on our team. We provide fresh baking on Wednesdays, flexibility to help you achieve a healthy life-work balance (note the order) and enjoy some fantastic social occasions together. We celebrate the diversity of our team – that’s gender, age, ethnicity, sexuality – the lot.
